cubes
Cubes is a data-driven sculptural installation developed in collaboration with contemporary artist Sergen Sehitoglu. The form is composed of six symbolic colors represented as five distinct cubes and one square, each corresponding to a dominant wall color used in exhibitions at Sanatorium, a contemporary art space in Istanbul, for five years.
Studio Fandam contributed to the project through design coding, data visualization, and 3D modelling. Using five years of archival exhibition photographs, the studio developed a custom process to analyze wall colors and calculate the total surface area each color occupied over time. These values were translated into volumes, with each cube’s size determined by the cumulative area of its respective color.
The studio also explored spatial configurations through parametric design tools and created 3D models to finalize the sculptural composition. The resulting installation transforms visual memory into a physical structure, mapping exhibition history through abstract form. ''Cubes'' was exhibited at Contemporary Istanbul 2022 and later at Sanatorium.
